Former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s memorial at the Marina beach in Chennai was all decked up for the possible merger of warring factions of the AIADMK, a day after the Tamil Nadu government announced an investigation into her death.

Factions led by Chief Minister EK Palaniswami and his predecessor O Panneerselvam are expected to make a joint announcement about the merger and chalk out the future course of action.

Palaniswami’s announcement on setting up of an inquiry commission to probe Jayalalithaa’s death was a big signal of understanding between the two faction as it was the key demand of Panneerselvam camp. The removal of jailed party general secretary VK Sasikala and her kin, including deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, from the AIADMK was the other major demand.
