Amid continuing ruckus and disruptions by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators in the Assembly, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday lashed out at the Opposition for their behaviour and said it smacked of hooliganism.

Speaking to reporters in the Assembly, the CM said the Opposition violated the sanctity of the House with their rowdy acts.

Captain Amarinder said action should be taken against all legislators who have been breaking the rules of the Assembly and throwing papers at the Speaker, besides creating unnecessary ruckus over non-issues.
Asked if the AAP and SAD were conspiring together to disrupt the proceedings of the House, the CM said it definitely appeared to be so, given their conduct over the past few days, in fact ever since the Budget session commenced.

The Chief Minister said he could give AAP the benefit of doubt since they were novices and did not know how to function in the Assembly, but the Akalis were also behaving similarly, clearly indicating that it was a deliberate ploy to prevent the government from implementing its promises to the people.

Instead of utilizing the Question Hour for raising their issues, they are indulging in political gimmickry to hog the limelight and to remain in the news, Capt Amarinder said, adding that such behaviour was completely against all democratic norms and ethics, and did not behoove the elected representatives of the people.

Captain Amarinder expressed shock at the assault on a watch and ward woman personnel by an AAP MLA today, saying it was disgusting and shameful.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress legislators on Thursday accused the AAP and SAD for indulging into ‘competitive hooliganism’ inside the Punjab Assembly by taking turns tried to jump the security cordon in an aborted attempt to assault the Speaker and misbehaved with the watch and ward staff, particularly the female members.

The legislators also took a dig at former CM Parkash Singh Badal for trying to shed crocodile tears for the AAP legislators who, they claimed, were feigning injuries.

The Congress legislators hailed the decision of the Speaker Rana KP Singh to marshal the erring legislators out of the house as they were trying to hold everybody to ransom. “AAP is known for spreading anarchy and lawlessness and they lived by their reputation inside the Assembly also by not only trying to disrupt the proceedings, but even attempting an assault on the Speaker”, the legislators pointed out.
