The Punjab Congress Legislative Party (CLP) will meet on Tuesday, a day before the maiden Budget session of the Captain Amarinder Singh government, to chalk out a strategy for ensuring smooth function and countering the Opposition effectively on any issues it is likely to raise in the Assembly.

Punjab Chief Minister(CM) and CLP leader Captain Amarinder Singh will convene the meeting of the Congress legislators on Tuesday evening at the Punjab Bhawan, a Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) spokesperson said.

He further said, the CLP will discuss the various matters listed for the Budget session, scheduled from June 14 to June 23. “The CLP will deliberate upon the legislative business to be transacted in the Vidhan Sabha and any other matter to be taken up in this session with the permission of the leader,” said the spokesperson.

The budget session is scheduled to commence at 2 pm on 14 June with Obituary references and adjourn sine-die after the proposed legislative business on 23 June. The discussion on the Governor's address would be held on 16 June and 19 June, as per the schedule approved by the Cabinet.

CM has already indicated that several important decisions, with financial implications, will be announced during the budget session to fulfil some key poll promises of his government. CM had recently said at an event that while a whopping 140 decisions had already been taken by his government, promises involving financial issues had perforce to be deferred till the budget session.
