A Chandigarh district court on Saturday granted bail to the 48 out of 53 students arrested for the violent clash between Panjab University (PU) students and the police while protesting against fee hike on 11 April.

Additional district court judge JS Sidhu permitted the application for the regular bail at 2:00 pm. The advocates AS Chahal, RS Bassi and Terminder Singh had filed the application on Wednesday for the students' bail.

The counsel who promised for free legal aid to the students have also filed an application for the bail of remaining five students.

"Names of the five remaining students names were not in the list due to which bail was not granted to them with others," said Amrit Veer Singh, district court lawyer.

In the application the advocates have clearly stated that the students have been falsely implicated by the police and there was no evidence against the arrested students for pelting stones at the policemen during the clash.
