MHA officers meet Vohra on Amarnath security

The Special Secretary of Internal Security in the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) Rina Mitra, accompanied by joint secretary Gyanesh Kumar met Governor NN Vohra in Srinagar on Sunday to discuss the security arrangements for the Amarnath pilgrimage commencing on June 29.

Chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and the Army Commander of Northern Command D Anbu met the Governor on Sunday to review the security arrangements for the pilgrimage. A spokesman of the Raj Bhavan said that the Governor also discussed with Ms Mitra a range of issues relating to effective maintenance of law and order and internal security and the safeguarding of International Border, LoC and LAC; increasing attempts of infiltration and growing incidence of terrorism in the Valley; continuing attacks on the state police personnel and the most worrying consequences flowing from the involvement of youth and students in agitational activities.

Meanwhile, mock security and disaster management drill was conducted today at the two base camps of the pilgrimage at Pahalgam in South Kashmir and Baltal in Central Kashmir. Such drill was also conducted at Udhampur which is on the Jammu-Srinagar highway that has witnessed several terror attacks. Teams of Fire & Emergency Department, NDRF, SDRF and CRPF took part under the guidelines of National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi and State Disaster Management Authority J&K.

Major General (Retd.) V K Dutta, Sr Consultant NDMA, Aamir Ali Mir, Director SDMA J&K Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad, Dy SP NDRF, Deputy Director Fire & Emergency, Medical Officer Pahalgam and other stake holders, apart from a large number of civilians attended the exercise.

The mock drill which was conducted at Nunwan base camp covered the activities like management of blast hitting a vehicle carrying pilgrims, landslides, terrorist attacks, cloudbursts and other exercises.
