The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued directions to the Deputy Commissioner Kangra at Dharamshala to forthwith take all steps for ensuring that the original structure of the historical temple of Kaleshwara (Kalesar) Mahadeva is maintained and is not allowed to be tampered with.

The Court further directed that none should be allowed to dig bore wells or tube wells within the radius of 500 metres from the holy place Panchtirthi or water body adjoining to the temple complex nor there shall be any construction activity allowed within the said periphery, except under permissions obtained from the authorities and also leave of the Court.

The Deputy Commissioner of Kangra at Dharamshala has also been directed to have the spot inspected from the SDM concerned on a regular basis and submit reports with regard to the maintenance of the ancient monument, initially on a fortnightly basis.

A Division Bench comprising the Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Ajay Mohan Goel passed these orders on a writ petition filed by Gagan Deep Prashar. The petitioner has alleged to issue directions for proper maintenance or cleanliness of the temple and its surroundings and to create facilities such as change rooms, both rooms etc. at proper places near “PanchTirath” for the convenience of the pilgrims. The applicant has also alleged that the respondents may be burdened with costs.

The Court listed the matter for 18 December, 2017.
