At least 28 people are feared killed in landslide triggered by flashfloods following cloudburst at Mangti Nalla and Malpa in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. A Junior Commission Officer, five jawans and seven porters were reportedly killed when cloudburst struck their camp at Mangti Nalla.

Three injured soldiers were admitted to the Army Hospital, Dharchula. Due to damaged roads, the search and rescue teams struggled to reach the affected area.

However, there was no official confirmation about the deaths.

The cloudburst at Malpa reportedly killed 14 villagers. Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat said, “There is no clarity on the number of death suffered at Malpa.”

The CM’s attempt to do an aerial survey of the affected area didn’t materialise due to low visibility and bad weather. The cloudburst struck the area at 2.40am, leading to landslides.

Due to heavy rainfall, Sinkhola bridge got washed away, affecting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Officer on Special Duty (Tourism) of Kumoan Mandal Vikas Nigam, DK Sharma, said, “We are looking for alternative route.”

Two batches of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims are on the Indian side at Sirkha and Nabhidhang.
