HPU to decide on election after discussions with stakeholders

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) would take a decision on holding students’ bodies elections after discussions with all stakeholders, newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Sikandar Kumar said.

Interacting with media persons, Kumar said he would meet the students and teachers union of all colleges and based on the suggestions of all stakeholders, a final decision would be taken on holding of polls.

“If good and congenial environment is there in all colleges and varsity, the authorities may conduct elections of student bodies in future,” he said.

He said the varsity would aim for A plus grade in coming years and the main reason behind the University not getting the same was the result of shortage of faculty. “All the vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff would be filled in coming years,” he said, while asserting the merit would be the only criteria for recruitments.

Sikandar Kumar expressed hope of resolving the issue of recognition for distance education of the varsity and said the issue wasn’t taken up properly before the University Grants Commission (UGC).

He expressed his commitment towards carrying out quality research in the HPU and said he would meet departments of Central government to bring new projects to the varsity.

Asserting that he wouldn’t differentiate with anyone, he said he would hold meetings will varsity to chalk out future strategy to make it of the best University not only India but in the world.
