Following the ban of red beacon lights, loud speakers and multi-toned horns are apparently being used in Haryana to exhibit VIP status.

Taking note of the incidents of using loud speakers or multi-toned horns atop their vehicles by the vehicle owners with a view of exhibiting their VIP status as an alternative to beacon lights, the Haryana government has ordered strict action against the practice.

The Transport Department has directed all the secretaries of Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) in the state to take strict action against the motor vehicles using loud speakers or multi-toned horns in violation of the provisions of rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

Stating this on Tuesday, a spokesman of the Transport Department said that it has come to the notice that after the ban on use of beacons lights, a large number of persons or vehicles owners have resorted to installation or use of loud speakers or multi-toned horns atop their vehicles with a view of exhibiting their VIP status as an alternative to beacon lights.

He said that under no circumstances, a circumvention of the order relating to removal of beacon lights should be allowed to be violated under the grab of installation of loudspeakers or multi-toned horns atop the vehicle as an alternative means of exhibiting any VIP status. The use of loud speakers or multi-toned horns not only causes noise pollution but also puts general public to inconvenience, the spokesperson added.
