Three days after 17-year-old Junaid was stabbed to death and his relatives were beaten up by a group of people in a train near Ballabgarh in Haryana, Government Railway Police (GRP) has said security is being increased on six local trains that run between Hodal in Haryana and Delhi.

Kamaldeep Goyal, GRP Superintendent of Police, Ambala Cantt, said these six local trains, which are almost always crowded, will be manned by four GRP personnel each.

“When the trains travel from Delhi to Hodal and from Hodal to Delhi four GRP personnel will be there inside to guard against any untoward incident," said Goyal.

Sources said ‘Bhajanmandalis’ with battery-operated mikes frequent these trains. A CPI-M delegation that met Junaid's victim family learned that these Bhajanmandalis have converted many general compartme nts in the local trains into exclusive religious zones andy make aggressive and abusive comments when Muslims enter the compartments.

“The words used in their songs will be under our scanner," said the police.

The GRP recorded the statements of some eyewitnesses to Thursday's incident. Goyal said these eyewitnesses revealed that the accused had used communal slurs and called the Muslim youths antinational. Goyal said they have secured some crucial leads.

The police has been conducting raids in villages near Balalbgarh to nab the culprits. One of the accused identified as Ramesh was arrested by GRP from Palwal.

The police have taken him to different areas to reconstruct the sequence of events. “We have made only one arrest but soon there will be a few more arrests,” said Goyal. Reward announced Goyal said anyone providing information about the culprits or offering video footage of the incident can get a reward of Rs 1 lakh.

“There were a large number of passengers in the train. We hope someone has recorded the whole incident. If someone provides us with video footage he or she will be rewarded,” said Goyal.
