The PDP–BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday suffered humilation as the Election Commission of India (ECI) reversed the appointment of 16 activists of the two parties as chairmen and vice-chairmen of various boards and corporations.
Following complaints by opposition parties the ECI asked the State Government to defer the appointments of these persons till completion of process for bye-election for the Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary Constituencies in the State.
The ECI has ordered that if any formal orders have been issued on or after March 9, 2017, the date of announcement of bye-elections in Srinagar and Anantnag Parliamentary Constituencies, the same may be rescinded with immediate effect.
The opposition National Conference and Congress have appreciated the order of the ECI.
