Resolving to ensure that the forthcoming assembly elections in the state are contested with seriousness, the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress will demand for single line leadership in Congress.

Addressing mediapersons on Tuesday Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress president Vikramaditya Singh said that their organisation will seek for elections in HP to be fought akin to ‘Punjab model’ of the Congress party that led to the party’s victory.

“We will urge the Congress high command to ensure the election is contested under single leadership of the incumbent chief minister Virbhadra Singh,” he said who is also the son of the chief minister.

He said the future strategy to be adopted by the party should aim at combating the onslaught of the opposition BJP party to ensure Congress victory in the forthcoming assembly elections.

After introspection of the defeat of Congress party in the recent Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) elections, it is clear that the coordinated efforts of the party was lacking, he said.

“The fractured verdict of the people of Shimla in the municipal elections has belied the claims of any Modi wave. It is evident from the results of a neck to neck fight between the Congress and the BJP even as BJP managed to win the elections. Had Congress fought on party lines the performance of the party would definitely have been better,” he said.

Terming the Rath Yatra of the BJP a biggest flop show, he said that the BJP has failed to prove their strength with gathering at various places in the state that include Seri Manch in Mandi district and Sunni in Shimla rural.

Disclosing of the road map of the Youth Congress, Vikramaditya said that Youth Congress has decided to effectively counter the propaganda of BJP by organising ‘Vikas Prachar Yatra’ from 17 July in 45 assembly constituencies in the first phase. The objective of the Yatra is to take to the masses the development and progress undertaken by the Congress government across the state.

To boost the Congress youth cadre a two day ‘Sankalp Shivar’ will be organised from 8 July at Mandi that will witness participation of the youth cadre, he said.
