As opinions remain divided over bursting of firecrackers on Diwali, Tej Pratap Yadav, son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Wednesday came up with a unique suggestion asking people to burst balloons instead of firecrackers.

“Crackers cause pollution, better is to blow up balloons and burst them. There will be no harm in this,” Tej Pratap Yadav told media.

The Supreme Court banned the sale of firecrackers in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) ahead of Diwali till November 1 to curb high pollution levels in the city, especially in the wake of Diwali every year.

Other states including Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and others too have imposed bans on loud firecrackers and have set time limits to burst them.

However, some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have alleged that Diwali has been targeted as it’s a Hindu festival and have openly announced that they will be burning crackers.

While, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday announced that he will be bursting firecrackers on Diwali because “traditions are as important as the environment”, Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Bagga on Tuesday distributed firecrackers among slum kids in Delhi.
