High-stakes contests in Karnataka
The southern State of Karnataka is preparing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a momentous event. It will unfold in 28 constituencies over two phases on April 26 and May 7.
The three language academies in Karnataka for Tulu, Beary and Konkani were facing neglect due to the state government's 'indifferent' attitude deciding on the chairpersons and members of the bodies, All India Congress Committee member P V Mohan has said.
In a statement here, he said the situation was 'pathetic' as these academies had made their own creative and noticeable contribution to the cultural arena in the coastal districts of Karnataka.
It was strange that such institutions were presently without a full-fledged team of office bearers, he said.

Academies are the voice of the cultural world and it was the duty of the state government to shed its indifference over appointment of members and chairpersons to the bodies,he said.
The academies, set up during M Veerappa Moily's tenure as Chief Minister, had in their own inimitable way enriched the cultural and literary spheres of the languages with their own stream of activities.
The institutions had contributed to uphold, nurture and develop the languages and their cause, he said.
The government s 'dilly dallying attitude' was an affront to the cultural world of the coastal districts, he said and urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to nominate members and chairpersons to the academies at the earliest.
