27 new branches of Co-operative Bank to come up in HP

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted approval to HP State Co-operative Bank (HPSCB) to open up twenty seven new branches, taking the number of branches to 256.

Earlier in 2014, HPSCB had opened 20 new branches and 7 new extension counters, out of which four were granted the status of a branch.
HPSCB director Keshav Naik said the opening up of banking activities would create more employment opportunities to the unemployed youth of the state. “We have sent another proposal to RBI for opening up off of 33 new branches of the bank after getting approval from NABARD,” he said, adding the NABARD had already granted HPSCB Class-A rating.

Naik said the bank has also received permission from the RBI to have its own currency chest. “The bank is providing its customers with mobile banking facility for convenience. Other facilities like Rupay debit card, Rupay KCC card and life insurance schemes have also been launched,” he said.

He said the bank was ranked first for overall performance in 2015-2016 session and its initiative of adopting Information Technology (IT) for error less and fast functioning is got wide appreciation.

“Not only has bank’s IT utilisation been recognised and awarded, it has also conducted above 100 workshops for promoting digital literacy,” he said, adding core banking solution, direct benefit transfer are among other important topics covered in the workshops.
