Facing profit booking after Tuesday’s strong rally domestic equity markets closed Wednesday’s trading session with modest declines.
Thenbsp;Sensexnbsp;at the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE closed 67 points down at 27984 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange NSEnbsp;closednbsp;19 points lower at 8659.
However broader markets closed in the positive zone. BSE midcap index gained 0.1 per cent while Smallcap index jumped by 0.6 per cent.
Among the BSE sectoral indices Power index jumped the most up 1.2 per cent while FMCG index became the top loser down 1.1 per cent.
On Tuesday thenbsp;Sensexnbsp;had closed 521 points higher at 28051 and the Nifty had closed 158 points up at 8.678.
Top gainers in thenbsp;Sensex-30 pack: Wipro up 2.6 per cent Lupin up 2 per cent Gail up 1.7 per cent Adani Ports up 1.6 per cent and Power Grid up 1.1 per cent.
Top losers in thenbsp;Sensex-30 pack: ITC down 2.6 per cent ICICI Bank down 2 per cent Hero Motocorp down 1.3 per cent HUL down 1.3 per cent and SBI down 0.8 per cent.
Meanwhile the Rupee was trading four paise higher at 66.69 against the US Dollar.
