In a bid to help the traders towards a smooth transition to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime from 1 July, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on 24 June announced to hold 100 GST Clinics across the country starting 1 July.

"CAIT is working closely with HDFC Bank, Tally Solutions and Mastercard in this endeavour to educate over six crore traders. The first phase of the nationwide awareness campaign will begin on July 1 and will help the trading community transition smoothly from the current tax regime to GST," the traders' body said here in a statement.

At the GST Clinics, traders will be informed about the fundamentals of the GST, designated role of technology for GST compliance, requisite information about mandatory compliance obligations, linkage of digital payments with GST and the changes required to make business compatible with GST provisions, it said.

CAIT National President BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said, "A large number of traders across the country are unaware of core issues, including compliance, which has led to a situation of utter confusion and unnecessary panic, the GST Clinic will ease the situation."

"As the country moves towards implementation of uniform tax regime under GST, it is imperative that the trader community that forms the backbone of the economy are well versed with the changes," they said.

GST Clinics will be held in the offices of trade associations, HDFC Bank branches or in markets easily accessible to traders.
