Invest Punjab in association with Start-up Accelerator Chamber of Commerce on Friday started business idea competition programme here.

The programme, Start-up Weekend, is a 54-hour New Business Ideas marathon conducted on any given weekend, from Friday to Sunday.

Inaugurating the weekend, Manjit Singh Brar, Additional CEO Invest Punjab and MD Milkfed said that start up summit is as per the vision of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal who has envisaged that the state should be employment generator rather than employment seeker.

"We are expecting 15 teams this time and a very tough competition, both from students and professionals," says Sumeer Walia, the Director and co-founder of SACC, which is the regional partner for Start-up Weekend and Techstars USA.

Start-up Weekend Worldwide has been conducted in over 100 countries and has created over 15000 business Ideas and over 2000 Start-ups from them, some of them funded and running very successfully.
