The University Grants Commission has issued new guidelines for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) for the academic session beginning January 2018 and July 2018. The UGC has asked higher education institutions which have submitted applications and representations for their recognition and for addition of new programmes to apply afresh as per UGC ODL regulations, 2017.

The regulations have been issued in a gazette notification. These regulations lay down the minimum standards of instruction for the grant of degree at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, through open and distance learning mode. These regulations will apply to universities and deemed universities.

The regulations require a higher educational Institution offering programmes in open and distance learning to display on its website a declaration by an authorised signatory, above the rank of registrar, authenticating the information regarding the institute, fee structure and curriculum.
