Two test centres set up for NEET-2018 in Kashmir Valley

Two exam centres for this year’s national eligibility entrance test (NEET) would be set up in the Kashmir Valley, following Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s request, the Central government announced on Saturday.

“Responding to the plea of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Central government has decided to set up two examination centres for the students of Kashmir Valley appearing in the upcoming NEET (PG)-2018 examination,” and official statement said.

“In a communication, the Union Health Ministry has informed the Board of Professional Examination authorities of the State to re-direct the candidates belonging to Kashmir Valley to two centres set up at Srinagar and Baramulla in this connection,” said an official statement.

It said that the decision follows a communication from Mehbooba Mufti to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda on November 10 drawing his attention towards the non-availability of examination centres for candidates belonging to Kashmir valley for the examination being conducted by National Board of Examination on January 7, 2018.

Mehbooba Mufti had said that the non-availability of an examination centre at Srinagar would put such a large number of medical graduates to a lot of inconvenience and requests for a local centre has come from various groups of students had come in view of the large number of candidates from Kashmir Valley taking the examination.
