‘A teacher makes you knowledgeable, a counsellor makes you adaptable, and the combination of these traits makes you admirable.” It is the most believable axiom of the 21st century that people acquire education, knowledge, and skills just not to improve their personalities, but a majority attains them to pursue a desirable profession. Unfortunately, many talented youths are still deprived of right career opportunities due to the prevailing cut-throat competition in the job market.

In the present scenario, education and skills are worthless until they find the right direction to reach their destination. The Generation-Y must concede that despite having X-Factor, they have to face fierce competition in the market as the list of aspirants is far larger than the opportunities available.

The word counselling sounds synonymous to solution and relief, and be it a medical or career it works in most the cases. This is nothing but a customised bouquet of advises and suggestions that make one prepared to take the right path that increases the probability of success. As when a counsellor helps one to assess his/her strength and weaknesses, developing a clear vision, updating the current developments in particular industries and formulating the strategic plans, career goals become rather close and achievable. But, one should be careful about choosing a career counselor. Taking advice from the teachers and seniors besides searching on the Internet can make this simpler, too. Those who often face difficulties in finding a good counsellor can go for online option as this is one of the best alternatives.

When a person who has years of experience in a particular field, knowledge of the industry, sharp intellect, and a good market rapport, his/her suggestions can benefit a lot. Even, a lack of confidence can emerge as an obstacle. So, they not only help in exploring the opportunities and suggesting strategies, but simultaneously remove their fear and assigns especial tasks that gradually enhance the confidence of the mentee.

Today, as competition gets bigger and tougher, youth find themselves in a dilemma during the transition from academic to professional life. The job market is flooded with degrees and diplomas, and industries recruit people who have clear career goals and are ready to adopt innovations at a faster pace. Here, the role of a counsellor is making this transition phase short and easy. If one is planning to change industry or work domain, then it becomes mandatory to consult with a professional counsellor.

A good career is a key to professional growth and satisfaction. People who couldn’t pursue their choice struggle a lot throughout their life. Whereas counseling doesn’t only help with the best decisions while choosing the right career option, it also provides an extra edge regarding skill enhancement, leveraging the job search process, discovering the networking tools and improving interpersonal communication skills. All these advancements in one’s personality create a positive mindset.
