Connecting universities

Ministry of Human Resource Development floated a tender for enabling 38 central universities within India to make them wifi enabled. IL&FS Technologies Limited won the tender after being evaluated on various parameters set by the ministry. Implementation of the project involves surveying the campus of the universities to understand the area, access points, switches, controllers and other important factors.

Later, designing, installing, commissioning, integrating and maintaining of active network components takes place at the campus. ITL will also provide training to the universities along with onsite support for two years. Banaras Hindu University was the first to accept the project in their 28 kms diameter campus. It will be extended to Nagaland University, H.N.B. Garhwal University and Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan in October. “In our endeavour to bring global technologies to India, we are delighted to get this project and will extend the services to more universities,” said Durga Prasad, CEO, ITL.
