Traffic flow was disrupted on a large stretch of Jawaharlal Nehru Road, AJC Bose Road and Shakespeare Sarani after twin rallies taken out by Youth Congress activists and DSO supporters. Taken out to commemorate the parent party&’s 130th foundation day during the day,Youth Congress supporters walked beside tableaux of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Moulana Azad and the procession went from Chitta Ranjan Avenue to Indira Gandhi&’s statue near M P Birla Planetorium.

Addressing a meeting after the procession, state Youth Congress president, Arindam Bhattacharya said that a series of agitations have been planned next year protesting against the policies of the Trinamul Congress- led state government and BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. The state government&’s obliviousness towards the starving tea garden workers and the Union government&’s communal programmes threatening to disrupt the secular fabric of the nation will be the focus of these agitations, he said.

Commuters faced a hard time due to traffic congestion after the DSO rally taken out from College Square till Raj Bhavan was stopped at the SN Banerjee Road and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road. The processionists also staged a road blockade for which the traffic diversion was made with the traffic of SN Banerjee Road was diverted towards south from Moulali crossing.
