The Trinamul Congress is maintaining a studied silence on the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi because it is keeping its options open so that it can “join hands with the BJP" in forming a government at the Centre if such an opportunity comes, former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.
“The Trinamul’s hand is outstretched and it’s ready to hold the BJP’s hand. Hence the leaders aren’t uttering a word when Mr Modi, under whose tenure as  chief minister Gujarat had witnessed a pogrom against the minority population, is made the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate. Elections to four states are just over and the results are awaited, but we are concerned,” Mr Bhattacharjee said. He called upon the people to help the Left and other secular forces defeat the Congress and the BJP in the coming LS elections. Only the Left and secular forces can help form a government which is alive to the interests of the people, CPI-M Politburo member Prakash Karat said. Remenbering the  day when the Babari mosque was pulled down, he blamed the then Congress government for it and said that the nation is  facing a crisis owing to the policies of the UPA and the Trinamulgovernments.
He said that the Trinamul claims to be “neutral” and yet decides its policies according to the programmes of the party  ruling at the Centre.
Calling upon the Left parties to close ranks instead of squabbling amongst each other about who is bigger and  more radical, veteran CPI leader AB Bardhan said that the Trinamul instead of selling the assets of Saradha chit fund after seizing them is paying depositors with public funds.
Days after asking the Left parties to keep their mouth shut for ten years in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today that they should allow her government to work.
“Please keep silent. You have missed the bus. You have got enough time for 34 years, but have not done anything. Now I’m on the chair. It&’s the people’s chair. Now let me work, ” Miss Banerjee told at a communal harmony rally today.
Miss Banerjee today cautioned the Opposition stating that  they are trying to gain “cheap publicity” by spreading canards. But that would not help. People in the recent panchayat and civic poll have voted for her government’s development work.
Condemning the demolition of Babari Masjid, she said then, politicians at the helm of power did little for the riot victims. She had travelled extensively in riot -ridden areas and seen their plight. In an indirect message to the BJP leadership, she said, “We will not allow creation of a demon in the state.”
