Siliguri, 8 July
The prime accused in Saradha Group default case, Mr Sudipto Sen and Ms Debjani Mukerjee, who had been remanded in jail custody for 14 days by the Siliguri court on 5 July, were produced at Siliguri court today after an appeal had been made to the court to take them into police custody on 6 July.
The assistant public prosecutor Mr Sudip Roy Basunia said the court remanded them in police custody for seven days.
“Both Mr Sen and Ms Mukherjee had assured that they would help police by giving information about the Saradha Group properties in Siliguri and other information. So we appealed to the court for police remand on 6 July. The court fixed the date today and accordingly the hearing took place. The Siliguri additional chief judicial magistrate, Dr Madhumita Basu, ordered them in police remand for seven days,” said Mr Roy Basunia.
A resident of Siliguri, Ms Uma Pal Majumdar, had lodged a complaint with Siliguri police station against the Saradha Group in April for allegedly cheating her after she had deposited Rs 1 lakh with the group.
