Siliguri, 11 November
The Siliguri Taxation Bar Association (STBA) would stage cease work at Aykar Bhaban at Matigara on 15 November over the closure of the appeal office of the commissioner of income tax in Siliguri.
The newly formed STBA action committee has decided to further intensify its stir against the decision. The office in Siliguri was wound up on 22 October. It is learnt that the IT-related appeals from Siliguri will have to be submitted at the office in Jalpaiguri from now.
"We have decided to continue our stir against the ill-conceived decision. Resorting to cease work at Aykar Bhaban at Matigara on 15 November is a part. This apart, we would start sending letters to the chief commissioner of income tax in Kolkata, the chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, secretaries of the Union finance department and of the state finance department from 12 November onwards to explain to them the impact of the closure on the tax payers from Siliguri ," said STBA general secretary, Mr Sanjib Chakrabarty.
Mr Chakrabarty further said the main demands of the movement include reinstating the appeal office in Siliguri and hearing of the cases regarding the assessment of the quantum of income tax at the concerned income tax offices in north Bengal instead of Kolkata.
