A running bus belonging to North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) suddenly caught fire near Jamtala area in the Gazole police station this afternoon. The bus had to be stopped to enable the passengers to come out quickly. Two engines of the fire brigade rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.
It has been learnt from sources that the Malda-bound bus from south Dinajpur suddenly caught fire from its engine as claimed by the passengers. The panicked passengers raised a hue and cry and the driver quickly stopped the bus on National Highway (NH)-34. The passengers got down from the bus in a hurry.
The fire-brigade was summoned. Two engines from Malda rushed to Gazole. Meanwhile, the bus was scorched. Police from Gazole police station rushed to the spot too. However, neither the driver nor the conductor spoke anything about the fire incident.
The Officer-in-charge of Gazole police station, Mr Parimal Saha, informed that none was injured in the fire. “Police was probing the incident,” Mr Saha said.
