BEHRAMPORE, 5 OCT: Impris-onment does not stop criminals from operating a murder syndicate. Three persons, including two employees of Behrampore municipality, were arrested with illegal firearms. They admitted to police they worked under the instructions of Khokan Sharma who is now lodged at Behrampore Central Correcti-onal Home.
Murshidabad district Congress expressed solidarity with Sharma when attempt was made to remove him from Behrampore jail to a correctional home at Krishnagar in Nadia last week. Several murder cases are pending against Sharma, a Congress activist who was arrested and put behind bars in May last year. The allegations that Sharma, an under trial prisoner, used to operate from jail and instruct his accomplices over mobile phones, was corroborated with evidence, claimed police.
As many as 13 cell phone sets used by prisoners were seized from Behrampore Central Correctional Home today, said Murshidabad SP Humayun Kabir. Acting under instructions from Sharma, Tarun Niyogi, Prabhat Chatterjee and Mithun Haldar collected money and purchased two pistols and cartridges, the SP said. sns
