Responding to the GJMM demand, the state government has issued an order to initiate the process to re-jig the blocks of the three sub-divisions of the Hills.
Meetings are being held between the GTA members and the administrative officials, including the SDOs and the BDOs of the respective sub-divisions, on the
matter.
There are presently eight blocks in the three sub-divisions. The project is expected to ease the administrative overload to cater to development better. However, works to re-jig would begin after the state government gives the final nod. One such meeting was held yesterday in Darjeeling at the office of the district magistrate.
“This is just a beginning,” said an official present at the meeting.
It is decided that the present three blocks of Darjeeling sub-division would be divided into seven blocks ~ Pul Bijanbari, Rimbick Lhodoma, Darjeeling Sadar, Rangli Rangliot, Mungpoo Sitong, Sukhia Pokhriabong and Sonada.
Such a meeting was held in Kalimpong on Tuesday.
Three blocks there would be re-jigged, making room for  seven blocks ~ Kalimpong 1, Algarah, Gorubathan, Reli development block, Kagey divison and Jaldhaka. For Kurseong, the meeting is expected to be held soon.
According to official sources, present two blocks would be divided into four blocks.
A GTA executive member and senior GJMM leader, Mr Jyoti Kumar Rai said the re-jig should make room for more than 18 blocks for administrative convenience and for speeding up development.
