Kolkata, 25 October
There will be no relief from the rains as the city will witness heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours due to the low pressure in Andhra Pradesh zone, said Met officials.
“The low pressure in Andhra Pradesh and the adjoining areas form the turf of cyclonic circulation resulting in heavy rainfall in West Bengal and other areas. The state will receive heavy rains on Saturday morning,” said Mr G C Debnath, director of Alipore Meteorological centre.
South Bengal, including Kolkata, will witness a heavy downpour in the next 24 hours on Saturday. Though it will rain for the next 48 hours intensity of the rainfall will be low on Sunday, said Mr Debnath.
While some parts of the city received heavy rains today, light drizzles continued for the entire afternoon in Kolkata.
The Alipore Met office recorded 26.7 mm rainfall since the past 24 hours. According to the Met office, the Bagdogra and Chitpur areas received heavy rainfall whereas the city received 2 mm.
