With an objective to provide facilities to the vegetable sellers, the authorities of North Dinajpur zilla parishad started a vegetable market at Duckbunglow Road in Kaliaganj of North Dinajpur district, six years ago.
However, the market could not be opened for the vegetable sellers till date. Now, this place is covered with weeds and has turned into a hub of anti-socials.
According to reports, this market was constructed in 2007 when the Left Front was ruling the board of North Dinajpur zilla parishad.  Around Rs 20 lakh was spent to build the market and a total of 30 shops and few concrete slabs were constructed on this two bigha plot. A section of traders of Kaliaganj said: "Both the Congress and CPI-M ruled the board of zilla parishad (ZP) since last six years. But none of them took any initiative to open this vegetable market."
The Sabhadhipati of the CPI-M-led board of North Dinajpur zilla parishad, Mrs Ladli Chaudhury, said: "In the past five years, the Congress ruled the board of ZP but they did not take initiative to open this
market.”
