West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday congratulated the people of Alipurduar on the anniversary of the district completing a year after its creation.

"Today is the first anniversary of creation of new district of Alipurduar, which our government did last year to fulfil the long-standing demands of the people of the region," Banerjee wrote in a Facebook post.

"Congratulations and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters of Alipurduar. Happy birthday, Alipurduar," she further wrote.

Alipurduar was the 20th district of the state constituted of Alipurduar and Falakata municipalities and six community development blocks. It has 66 gram panchayats and nine census towns with its headquarters at Alipurduar.
