Menlom Lepcha, MLA, Rumtek-Martam constituency, inaugurated Solar street lights that have been installed along the road connecting Rey-Mendu with Lingdum. These were donated by 13th Battalion of Indo Tibetan Border Police on 2 September. The 20 odd solar street lights were donated by the ITBP for the welfare of villagers under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2012-13, said an ITBP official.
The Assistant Commandant, ITBP, M S Bhandari illustrated the welfare activities being undertaken by ITBP for the residents of Sama-Sevik and Rey-Mendu during the past 3-4 years under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme (CAP) and Border Area Development Programme (BADP).
Baljinder Singh, Commandant, ITBP, informed that in the near future, ITBP might open a Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central School) and cyber cafe for the children of the local people. 
He requested the MLA and the gram panchayat to come up with some innovative ideas for the betterment of the local populace. He later said that in any emergency, the locals can visit the unit hospital being run by ITBP.
The unit also distributed two Compound Microscopes and other laboratory equipment to Sr. Secondary School, Ranka and some sports items to the children of Panchawati Ashram of Sama-Lingdum
The MLA, who was the chief guest, appreciated the work being done by the ITBP unit and asked the local people to extend their co-operation to the ITBP  unit in every way.
