KOLKATA, 9  JUNE: The condition of the Irish woman who was allegedly raped by a youth last week is stated to be stable after she was admitted to Calcutta Medical Research Institute yesterday.
“The victim is in Intensive Care Unit and will be shifted to a general ward within a couple of days,” said Mario Martin Louis, deputy general manager of the hospital. 
Mr Louis said the woman would be kept under observation and might be discharged next week.  
She was admitted to the hospital yesterday following overdose of prescribed medicines and sleeping pills. 
The 21-year-old Irish woman, who had been in the city since May for her work with an NGO, was allegedly raped by a man in his house in the Kalighat area on 1 June. Following the complaint, police had arrested the man who is now in police custody. sns
