STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE
Kurseong, 4 August
A large number of personnel belonging to the voluntary cell of the GJMM party, the Gorkhaland Personnel have resigned en masse from their respective jobs in the GTA and have joined the GLP camp again to agitate for the Gorkhaland stir again.
The GJMM leadership in Kurseong has welcomed several GLP members for having resigned from their respective employments to join the Gorkhaland agitation. Later, the GLP members who were working at various government offices mainly as security guards from different parts of Kurseong and Kalimpong assembled at the Kurseong Motor Stand and shouted slogans in support of Gorkhaland. They were garlanded with flowers and khadas and later made way to their respective camps to get ready to agitate for a separate state.
A GLP member said: "We have resigned just like our Chief Mr Bimal Gurung has resigned as GTA Chief for the paramount demand of Gorkhaland and like him we are also ready to sacrifice ourselves and fight for Gorkhaland till the last breath of our lives."
The GJMM youth leader, Mr Subash Pradhan, said: "We have welcomed and respected their stance. Later, we have sent them all to their respective camps to get themselves ready to agitate once again."
Notably, as soon as the GJMM party had been formed, the party chief Mr Bimal Gurung also formed a separate organisation within the parent body called the Gorkhaland Police. The Gorkhaland police when mired in controversy because of its name was later christened Gorkhaland Personnel by Mr Gurung as its voluntary cell.
The GLP, has since its inception been trained well by various ex-army personnel in the art of warfare and volunteering during the party&’s political meetings. It had even once worked to curb the transportation or sale of liquors in Darjeeling Hills which resulted in thousands of such liquor being confiscated by them.
Later when GTA was formed through a tripartite agreement involving the Centre, State and the GJMM party, several of these volunteers had been given jobs in the new set-up, mainly as security personnel.
