Behrampore, 7 February: The Congress leadership today suspended party MLA from Suti constituency,  Mr Imani Biswas on charges of flouting party discipline. Confirming the rebel legislator&’s suspension from the party,  Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury said: “He had surrendered to greed. His anti-party activity is an act of treachery.”
The MP further quipped: “He made a mockery of his name Imani which means trustworthy.”
The MLA, however, admitted that he cast his vote for Trinamul Congress candidate contesting the Rajya Sabha election. Explaining his decision, the Congress rebel said: “Here in Murshidabad, we put up a fight against the CPI-M. When I contested the Assembly election as a Congress candidate, TMC supporters had voted for me.”
Expressing his grievance against the Congress in Murshidabad, Mr Biswas said: “When police assaulted me physically, the party did not stand by me. I had protested against police atrocity on Congress party workers at Suti.”
“The party often takes a number of important decisions without consulting  MLAs like me. I cannot work for the people who elected me but do not feel the need to listen to me on issues,” said the MLA.
“I have not yet taken any decision to quit the Congress,” he said.     sns
