A victim of alleged custodial violence has lodged a complaint with the Murshidabad district magistrate against accused police officers of Raninagar police station alleging no action has been taken against them.
The victim is an activist of the ruling Trinamul Congress. Some goons of Char village under Raninagar police station have allegedly been creating trouble in the locality.
The goons reportedly engage in illegal activities in the area. Police complaints are said to have been lodged against those criminals at Raninagar police station.
On 18 October around 10 a.m, the accused police officer allegedly arranged a meeting between the villagers and the goons. The victim was also present. He claims the accused officers tried to protect the goons from the angry villagers when things got worse.
The accused officers, along with his subordinates, reportedly engaged in a scuffle with the locals. The victim said he was dragged and detained inside the lock-up and physically tortured by the accused officers.
He claimed they threatened him of dire consequences. The victim said he was released after the officers made him sign a blank paper.
A complaint has been registered with the Murshidabad superintendent of police and sub-divisional police officer; Domkol, Murshidabad, along with the DM on 20 October.
