Project may not to start due to pending work, lack of fund
Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee during her Biburm visit will inaugurate a water project, which is yet to be completed. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her visit to Illambajar of Birbhum will inaugurate several projects along with water project of Rampurhat.
Unfortunately this project will not be able to run after the inauguration too as it is not completed. Presently Rampurhat municipal area has no door to door water supply system. Having a population of nearly 60 thousand the civic body supplies water through roadside taps. Several households depend on submersible pumps for convenience. For public convenience in the year 2007, a water project was taken for Rampurhat municipality under Jaharlal Nehru National Urban Reconstruction Mission(JNNURM). According to schedule the project was assured to be completed within 2012. Total cost of the project was around Rs 12 crore.
Project work is still incomplete in more than fifty percent of total number of wards. However, a huge money had been spent in this project. In 2007, the
civic body received around Rs 7 crore for the project. After the
money was spent received another Rs 3crore, 92lakhs.
According to sources all of the money has already been spent. The opposition party councilors are dissapointed with the pace of work. “The municipal authorities have spent the money for paying the salaries of unwanted municipal workers. Now they don’t have the money to complete the project”, claimed Mr Madhab Sardar, a BJP councilor. However, municipal authorities claim that they will complete the project within this year. “A very little work has to be completed to start the water project. We will be able to start supplying water soon after the project is inaugurated”, said Mr Aswini Tewari, Chairman, Rampurhat municipality.
