KOLKATA, 27 JUNE: A businessman was allegedly abducted by some unidentified goons in MG Road this afternoon. Police have started an investigation; however, no one has been arrested.
Mr Pradip Khandelwal, a resident of Garfa, who runs his property business in the Burabazar area, called his wife at around 1.15 p.m. and told her that some goons had kidnapped him from 161 MG Road.
Before hanging up he also told her that the goons had dragged him inside an ambulance. After the call the phone was switched off.
According to police, Mr Manik Nandi, an associate who was present in the victim’s office around the time of the incident told police that Pradip asked him to wait in his office and went out.
Pradip had assured another person to provide a loan of Rs 20 lakh and told him that he is going to arrange for the loan from a private bank.
It is learnt that the victim had taken Rs 4 Lakh from Manik as loan and the latter had come to get back his money.
Soon after leaving his office, Pradip called up Manik and told him that he had been abducted and had been taken inside a moving ambulance, police said.
He later called his wife and told the same thing.
Meanwhile, an unidentified caller also called the Burabazar police station and said that he saw someone being abducted outside the Bangur building on MG Road.
Police have lodged a complaint of abduction with the Jorasanko police station and started an investigation.
According to mobile call details of the victim he had been in the College Street area after which his mobile phone was switched off. Police have initiated a search.
Police also interrogated Manik and came to know that the victim had taken huge amount of loans from different persons to expand his business. Police also learnt that he had failed to expand his business and found it difficult to pay back the loans.
