Two held for molesting woman
KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman at the Chatterjee haat area in Howrah. The 26-year-old woman employed in the IT Sector at Salt Lake was allegedly accosted by a gang after she alighted from a bus near Dumurjala stadium around 10 p.m. Tuesday. She started walking towards her house at Manikpara of Chatterjee haat when four men on two motorbikes allegedly passed lewd comments and tried to pull her hands, said police. A local youth rushed to her rescue. The four men fled. The woman then called up her father. She later spotted two of the four persons who had allegedly molested her a short distance away. She informed her father who alerted locals and the accused were beaten up before being handed over to police. The duo, Debashish Saha and Prashant Maity, both in their 30s, are residents of Howrah. They were produced before court today.
Woman inmate dies of cardiac arrest
KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: A 33-year-old inmate of Alipore Women’s Correctional Home, Nilima Burma, died in the correctional home due to cardiac arrest. She had undergone an cardiac operation in 2010.
Man arrested for duping job seekers
KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: Police arrested Ranjita Mary Roy from Garfa late this evening on charges of duping job aspirants to the tune of Rs 85,000. She assured the victims to provide jobs in IT sector and took money from them. She even gave them fake appointment letters. Police have started an investigation.
Trafficked girl rescued
KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: Police rescued a 19-year-old girl from the Watgunge area today. The victim, a resident of Odisha, is trafficked to Kolkata for prostitution. Police said she was raped by the traffickers before selling her to a brothel in Andhra Pradesh. Police have lodged a complaint and started an investigation.
Bhutan youth dies mysterious death
KOLKATA, 19 JUNE: Mystery shrouds the death of a 23-year-old Bhutan national, Dorzi Teshewan, who used to stay in an apartment at Tiljala with a friend. This morning the girl was staying with found him ill and took him to a hospital, where he died. The girl was from Siliguri and both of them had come to the city for studies. Police are yet to ascertain the cause of death.
Girl runs away to avoid being sold
RISHRA, 19 JUNE: A teenage student ran away from home to avoid being sold in the name of marriage. Morning walkers at Konnagar noticed the girl sitting  alone with a schoolbag on the steps of Baro Mandir Ghat. She was later rescued by police. It was learnt that early this morning she ran away to avoid being ‘sold’ to one Rajesh of Delhi by her parents in the name of marriage in exchange for a lump sum amount.
