Award: Capt. Makar B.Limbu has been conferred with the ‘APSA India Award’~ a coveted professional security and safety services award ~ by Asian Professional Security Association, for his relentless contribution towards security and safety services for the past 26 years.
Two held: Forest department apprehended two persons and handed them over to Bhaktinagar police station on charges of felling a ornamental tree on Friday. Foresters arrested the driver Rajib Pramanik, who was ferrying logs and a labour. Others fled and denied charges, including NBSTC officials.
LF agitation: The Darjeeling district Left Front activists staged a sit-in demonstration in Siliguri on Friday. The district LF convener and former state urban development minister Mr Asok Bhattacharya said the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) board members who were interrogated by police should be removed from the SJDA board.
Investigation: Police started an investigation after getting a complaint from a woman that her bank account balance has been withdrawn mysteriously. Police said it seemed that somebody was withdrawing money with a fake ATM card.
Integrity Day observed: English Bazaar block administration jointly with English Bazaar Municipality on Friday observed ‘Integrity Day’ despising the demolition of Babri mosque in 1992. Acting Malda DM NK Biswas, additional executive officer of ZP AK Ray, SDO (sadar) Nandini Sarawati, district rural development officer Samanjit Sen Gupta, BDO, English Bazaar Partha De and others explained the significance of the day.
Mourning: Five days of mourning will be observed from Friday in the state for the death of Nelson Mandela. No programme will be organised from 6 to 10 December. Two programmes were cancelled on Friday.     SNS
Minor fire: A minor fire broke out on the first floor of the Public Service Commission office in Tollygunge on  Friday morning. Two fire tenders were sent to douse the flames. A heap of papers caught fire, police said.    SNS
Body found: An unidentified body, aged around 30-35 years, was found floating in Rabindra Sarobar Lake on Friday morning. There was no external injuries on his body. The decomposed body was sent for postmortem. SNS
Death behind bars: One female inmate Rukhsana Bibi (35)  died   and another  was injured on Thursday, after first floor balcony of Alipore central jail staff quarters  collapsed.     SNS
Two killed : One child and a youth were  killed in two road accidents.  Bishal Shaw (12) was knocked by a vehicle on Naskarhat Road.In another incident, Shiba Majumdar, (18) died after being hit by a private car near EM bypass.     SNS
Health award: The Swasthya Puruskar Award that was scheduled to be held at Town Hall on Friday was cancelled following the demise of South Africa&’s first president  Nelson Mandela.    SNS
