CPM party office set on fire
UTTARPARA, 9 JUNE: The CPM party office was set on fire by unidentified goons. A rickshaw puller noticed the flames at Radhika Nandi Smriti Bhavan ~ a CPM party office ~ at Koturang-2 Bazaar More at around midnight. He informed the local night vigilance party immediately. Soon party workers reached the spot and with help of local people managed to douse the fire. Some goons had reportedly broken the window panes from the rear side and hurled a lighted kerosene bottle into the party office. A local CPM party worker, Mr Dipankar Dey, alleged a poster was also found warning four of their party members of dire consequences. Mr Tarun Gain, the local councillor, lodged a complaint with Uttarpara police. 
Eye surgery theatre at rly hospital
KOLKATA, 9 JUNE: The director general, Railway Health Services, Railway Board, New Delhi, Dr PS Prasad, yesterday inaugurated the Renovated Eye Surgery Theatre of South Eastern Railway Central Hospital at Garden Reach. Patients can avail a completely separate operation theatre, dedicated exclusively for the eye patients. The Eye Department of the South Eastern Railway Central Hospital performs about 1000 Phaco-emulsification procedures annually.
200 people ill after consuming prasad
CANNING, 9 JUNE: At least 200 people were hospitalised since yesterday afternoon at Chotomollahkhali under Gosaba police station. The villagers have been vomiting and complaining of stomach pain, hospital sources said. Police said the affected people had attended kalipuja at the home of  a neighbour on Friday and took prasad.
Twenty injured in road mishap
KOLKATA, 9 JUNE: Twenty persons, including women and children, were injured after a Howrah-bound bus turned turtle on NH-6 at Tulsiberia near Uluberia this evening. 
Auto driver molests woman
KOLKATA, 9 JUNE: A woman, who was allegedly molested by an auto driver, lodged a complaint with Parnashree police station. She alleged the auto driver verbally abused her after a brawl.
Woman commits suicide
KOLKATA, 9 JUNE: Manashi Devi Sau (35) committed suicide at Dhalipara in Haridebpur. Police said the woman was suffering from mental depression.
