GANGTOK, 19 JUNE: Chief Minister, Pawan Chamling said that administrative hurdles are impeding implementation of certain projects in the state. Citing examples of these projects, he appealed to the officials to be proactive and take personal initiatives in fulfiling the developmental aspirations of the people.
He was speaking at a coordination meeting of the heads of departments of the state government held here at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok today. He said the people of the state have empowered the government to make policies and programmes for them and the government is answerable and accountable to the people who have given them the mandate. “The bureaucracy is accountable and answerable in the same way to the government as far as implementation of the government-envisaged projects is concerned,” he said.
The state government has given positive working environment, peace and security in every respect to the officers and employees and it should be reciprocated by way of making the administration vibrant, he added. Further, Mr Chamling directed the officers of the rank of Special Secretary, Principal Director, Director, Chief Engineer to tour the districts every month and the officers of the rank of Secretary and Principal Secretary should tour the districts on a bi-monthly basis. The Chief Secretary should tour the districts on a half-yearly basis, he said. Monthly coordination meeting of the department should also be made compulsory, he added.  sns
