Minister of state for Railways, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, at Barasat. He assured the Barasat rape victim’s family of a meeting with the President for help. Seven days have passed since the teenager was gangraped and murdered by some local goons at Kamduni in Barasat. Police have arrested some goons and the state witnessed protests condemning the incident.  Mr Chowdhury said: "Today I will go to Delhi and I assure that I will try my best to arrange a meeting of the family members with the President as soon as possible.” He added: “I am not coming here for any political purpose. I condemn the incident and am saddened at what happened to the girl. I promise to stand by them and help them.” He then went to a local field where he addressed a gathering and asked women to pick up arms for self-protection.
