Behrampore, 1 October
The Behrampore MP and the minister of state for railways, Mr Adhir Chowdhury, prayed for anticipatory bail today at the District and Sessions Court at Behrampore in Murshidabad. The minister was earlier charge-sheeted and shown as absconding following an arrest warrant issued last week by the CJM&’s court at Behrampore.
The bail petition was filed before the Additional District Session Judge, Mr. Asit Kumar Dey, who is currently acting as the District and Sessions Judge as the District Judge, Mr Shyamal Kumar Gupta, vacated his office yesterday, without anyone being selected to replace him yet.
The petition for the MP&’s anticipatory bail was not heard today, said Mr Piyush Ghosh, counsel for the petitioner.
The bail prayer is likely to be heard on a later date when the new District Judge joins duty.
