Serampore Municipality with a noble cause of  creating interest about books in the present generation organised the 4th Serampore Book Fair in the Gandhi Maidan adjacent to the Railway Station.
The Serampore Municipality took this opportunity to remember the Late Sadhan Ganguly a renowned journalist and Amiya Goswami for their services towards the society.
The theme is ‘Amar Bangla’~ the present rural and urban Bengal. The Late Nelson Mandela, the great liberator is the main exhibit on the cultural stage of the book fair. Mr Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay,  known for his writing was during inauguration of the fair. He said: "There is no alternative to books, the present generation must be encouraged towards developing reading habits. Organising a book fair is a good attempt in this regard".
The committee has organised cultural programmes , drawing , dance and debate competitions to encourage budding talents.
The fair will remain open till 12 January.
