Jalpaiguri police today arrested four of the five persons from the Jaigaon area who have been charged with kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
Police are looking for the fifth man and trying to identify a van in which they allegedly kidnapped the girl and went over to the Bhutan side of the border. The five had allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, who belongs to the minority community, in a lodge located on the side of Bhutan, police said.
The four arrested persons have been identified as Rupesh Paswan, Manoj Paswan, Jayshankar Thakur and Ukil Thakur. Police are looking for Manoj Thakur.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl, police came to know that the five had asked her to come along with them to visit a fair in a nearby area on 4 February.
According to her statement, she managed to escape from the lodge on to the Bhutan side, close to the border, in the evening on 5 February and arrived home the next day.
