Gangtok, 5 January
Police arrested two Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supporters on charges of intimidating a Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) supporter and forcefully
removing SKM flag from his house at Salghari near Jorethang, South Sikkim on Friday.
Karna Bahadur Biswakarma and Aita Raj Rai said to be Central Executive Committee members of SDF were arrested after Dhansingh Tamang filed a FIR alleging them of forcefully replacing SKM flag with a SDF flag.
The duo has been booked under IPC Section 447/506 and 34 at Jorethang police station.
They would be released on bail after questioning later evening, informed police sources.
Condemning the incident, SKM publicity Jacob Khaling said it showed
the ruling party&’s true
face of threatening opposition supporters in the wake of SKM&’s growing popularity in the state.
"The SDF is a party of goons from top to bottom as is evident from such incidents. Pawan Chamling has made hooliganism customary in politics and brands others as goons and rowdies. Khaling also accused the SDF chief of resorting to violence and inflicting the same practice on his workers,” he said.
“Both the arrested persons are aware that their
violence may impress
Chamling,” added Mr
Khaling.
In another incident, SKM youths demanded the removal of a SDF flag on a SNT bus carrying footballers to the constituency level rural sports meet at Jorethang today.
