MALDA, 18 JUNE: A youth was imprisoned for 10 years for alluring a minor girl with marriage offer and raping her. The girl gave birth to a girl child too.
The Additional District and Session Judge of first track fourth court, Mr Gour Sundar Banerjee, today, in his judgment, also imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 lakh.
It has been learnt that the teenager girl, was lured with the marriage proposal by one Sarban Saha, long back.
He even raped the girl and as a consequence, the girl became pregnant in 2009.
It was claimed by the girl that when she told Sarban about her pregnancy, he refused to marry the girl.
The minor girl gave birth to a girl child in 2009 and requested Sarban to acknowledged the baby as his child.
But the youth rejected the plea.
Later, the girl lodged a complaint with police and a case was started against Sarban which continued for four years.
Twelve witnesses were examined during the case.
Today, the Judge, Mr Banerjee declared the verdict under Section 376 and 417 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Mr Banerjee in his judgment said that Sarban would be imprisoned for 10 years and if he failed to pay the fine of Rs 1 lakh, additional imprisonment of one more year would be imposed. The girl said that she was happy with the judgment as she was helpless and lured by the youth with a false marriage offer.
