At least 10 were injured when TMC and CPI-M activists armed with lethal weapons and sickles, were involved in a clash over the possession of a plot at Lakhania village in Mahipur gram panchayat in the Raiganj police station area of North Dinajpur district, this morning. Five seriously injured in the clash are undergoing treatment in Raiganj district hospital.
The Secretary of Raiganj Zonal CPI-M committee, Mr Anirudhdha Bhowmick, said: "When our members were campaigning for the election near Lakkhania village in Mahipur gram panchayat, some TMC supporters tried to capture a plot of land owned by one of our members. When our members opposed them they attacked with lethal weapons and sickles. Five of our members were injured. One Saidul Islam is battling with life.” One Abdul Karim, a injured TMC member, denied the charge and said: "When we were campaigning for the elections at Lakhkhania village the CPI-M members suddenly attacked us. Five of our members were injured in the attack."
The IC, Raiganj police station, Mr Dinesh Pramanik, said: "No one has been arrested yet. Complaints have been lodged by both parties. Primary investigation has revealed that the clash was over the possession of a plot of land. However, further investigation has started. Police patrolling has been intensified."
